Is Your Situation a Dental Emergency?
- Severe toothache or tooth pain
- Broken, chipped, or cracked tooth
- Knocked-out tooth
- Lost crown or filling
- Dental abscess or swelling
- Broken denture or bridge
- Bleeding gums that won't stop
- Injury to the jaw or mouth
If you are experiencing any of the above, call us immediately. Dental emergencies worsen quickly. Same-day treatment can prevent tooth loss and significantly reduce pain and infection risk.
What To Do Right Now
Knocked-Out Tooth
Keep it moist in milk or hold between cheek and gum. Get to us within 1 hour for the best chance of reimplantation.
Broken Tooth
Rinse with warm water. Apply gauze if bleeding. Do not eat on that side until you are seen.
Dental Abscess
Do not try to pop it. Take an OTC pain reliever if needed. Call us immediately - an abscess can spread to the jaw and neck and become dangerous.
Lost Crown
Try to keep the crown if possible. Do not use super glue. Call us same day - we can usually re-cement or replace it on the spot.
Our Emergency Process
Step 1: Call our office when it opens - we hold same-day slots for emergencies every day.
Step 2: Describe your symptoms so we can prepare the right room, instruments, and anesthesia.
Step 3: Arrive - we prioritize emergency patients and minimize your wait.
Step 4: Exam, X-ray, diagnosis, and same-day treatment when possible. We always explain your options and costs before beginning anything.
When To Go to the ER Instead
Go to the hospital emergency room - not a dentist - if you experience any of the following, which can indicate a spreading infection requiring immediate hospital care:
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Severe facial swelling spreading to the neck or eye
- High fever combined with swelling
- Uncontrolled bleeding that does not stop
